Hi Everyone,

Just found this page in internet and looks very promising as my next car gadget

But i have a question regarding bluetooth connection.
My car - Toyota RAV4.3, GPS Unit: Roadrover D7009TR (with BT, with USB Host, WinCE 6.0)

What would be better option? Bluetooth or USB Connection??

If i will choose Bluetooth:
- what will happen if i will have my phone connected via BT to the unit? Can both devices work in the same time? Or one will be disconnected?

Hi proxonic,

There are both pros and cons.

Phone and bt-elm can work simultaneously, but there is a chance the channel will be overloaded (especially if you'll use network via your phone).
Good thing for BT is that it requires no extra wires. BT adapters are often more compact comparing to elm.

However USB connection is more stable and (in theory) could be faster.

I decided to go with ELM Bluetooth, but as i have Roadrover unit in my Toyota Rav4, i need to buy an external BT Dongle, right?

Is there no way to use the internal bluetooth of the Roadrover unit?

No, internal BT can't be used - it is only capable of doing voice connection and is a stanalone module (not linked with windowsCE system)

I bought this mumbi BT dongle, which established a connection on my RR IAI7037V2:

But be careful: To one with the curved end did not work - only the one with the straight end.

It's all about luck....
i bought 5 different ones...
3 had the curved end....
and of all the 5 only one with the curved end worked

Notice also that stable power is quite important.
Internal car audio gives out ~800mA normally, thats enough for BT dongle alone, but in my case It starts failing as soon as I plug a USB flash disk. 3g modem for sure can eatup the power as well.
